Carbon Filtration for Chlorine and Chloramine in Meriden, CT

Carbon Filtration for Chlorine and Chloramine in Meriden, CT

If your tap water smells like a swimming pool, chlorine is the reason. Activated carbon removes free chlorine well, and a whole house carbon tank from Meriden, CT Whole House Water Filtration can take that smell out of every shower and sink in your Meriden, CT home.

Chloramine is a different problem. Many utilities add ammonia to chlorine so the disinfectant lasts longer in the pipes. Standard granular carbon needs a lot more contact time to break chloramine down, so an undersized tank lets it slip through. You notice it as a faint chemical taste that never fully goes away.

We check your utility's annual water quality report (the Consumer Confidence Report) to see which disinfectant it uses. Then we size the carbon bed by flow rate. A 1.5 cubic foot tank is common for a small home. Larger homes with chloramine often need 2 cubic feet or a catalytic carbon blend.

Carbon also reduces many volatile organic compounds and improves taste. It does not soften water or remove dissolved minerals, and we tell you that up front.
